Tips for selling or part exchanging your bike

There are a few things you can do to help maximise your bike's re-sale value.

Provide up-to-date images of your bike

High quality, up-to-date images of your bike will help us clearly see the condition of your bike and provide a valuation.

Full-service history

What's on the inside is equally as important as what's on the outside. A full-service history gives us a good indication of how well your bike runs.

Give your bike a clean

Such a small thing can have a big impact on the value of your bike. Give your bike a thorough clean and reap the benefits.

Make sure your MOT is up to date

If your bike's MOT is due, make sure this is completed before you sell or part exchange it to ensure everything is running smoothly.

Valuing your motorcycle

Everyone's different, and the same applies when it comes to your motorcycle! As each bike is different, this means that mileage doesn't necessarily indicate true value.

That's why we provide a unique valuation for each motorcycle, with fairness guaranteed. This may take a little longer than an instant online valuation, though it's the best way to make sure the price reflects the genuine value.

Ensure the best possible valuation for your bike, by making sure it's in good condition and that all paperwork is up-to-date and complete.

So, what are you waiting for? It might be worth more than you realise.

FAQs

Can you sell a bike that's on finance?

Yes, if you have remaining finance left on your motorcycle, you can still sell it to us.

You will need to get in touch with your finance company and request a valid settlement letter. Please bring this document to your dealership appointment. We will handle the outstanding balance for you by deducting it from the payment you receive for your bike. Even if you owe more in finance than the bike's value, we will still buy it from you. However, you will need to cover the shortfall.

Please do not cancel your finance direct debit until we have received your motorcycle and have confirmed that the balance has been settled. If you prematurely cancel the direct debit, you may still be charged.

Where is the best place to sell a bike?

At Vertu Motorcycles, we've made it easy to sell your bike. Simply request your valuation using our handy online form. We'll ask a few questions about its condition and provide you with an expert valuation.

If you're happy to proceed, you can schedule an appointment with us, and we will take care of the rest.

Please note, there is no obligation to sell your bike to us following your valuation, and you won't encounter any unexpected costs along the way.

What month is best to sell a motorcycle?

At Vertu Motorcycles, we buy bikes all year round. So, if you're looking to sell your motorcycle, don't delay - request your free valuation to get things started.

What paperwork is needed to sell a motorcycle in the UK?

When it comes to selling your motorcycle, there are a few documents you will need to provide. The main document is the V5C logbook, which contains essential information such as the registration number. It is also helpful to have the service history, MOT records, and any other paperwork to hand if this applies.

Does my motorcycle need to be clean for sale?

To ensure you get the best price for your motorcycle, we recommend giving it a good clean, so we can see it in its best light.

How can I value my bike?

At Vertu Motorcycles, we'll give you a free, no-obligation valuation for your bike. Our expert technicians follow a detailed method, which means you are guaranteed a fair and competitive price.

Your bike will be individually assessed to provide a unique and fair valuation. Although this may take a little longer than an instant valuation, it's the best way to make sure the price reflects the genuine value.

Do motorbikes go up in value?

In general, motorcycles depreciate over time just like other vehicles. However, by ensuring that you regularly service your motorcycle, you can help protect its resale value.

If well maintained, some rare or vintage motorcycles may increase in value over time, as they tend to appeal to biking enthusiasts.

What will affect the value of my bike?

Several factors will affect the valuation you receive for your motorcycle. These include:

  • Make and model
  • Vehicle age
  • Condition and service history
  • Mileage
  • Any extras or modifications

External factors such as market conditions will also affect the value.

How long is my bike valuation valid for?

Your valuation is valid for seven days from the day you first receive it. This should give you plenty of time to think things over and book an appointment with us if you'd like to proceed.

What happens after my valuation?

Once you have received your motorcycle valuation, if you're happy to proceed, the next step is to book an appointment at your local dealership. During this appointment, we will inspect your bike, complete any remaining paperwork, and finalise the sale.

Please note, all appointments are free of charge, and there is no obligation to sell your motorcycle if you change your mind.

Are there any administration costs?

No. There are no hidden fees to worry about when you sell your bike with Vertu Motorcycles.

Do you buy bikes in any condition?

To ensure we are able to offer our customers a range of high-quality used motorcycles, we only buy bikes that are in great condition. If you are unsure about the exact condition of your bike, you can request a valuation from our expert team, who will happily advise.

When will I receive payment for my motorcycle?

The payment for your motorcycle will be processed during your final appointment. You will receive this via BACS transfer, typically 3-5 working days after this date.

We are a credit broker and not a lender. Finance is subject to status and finance company acceptance. We can introduce you to a limited number of lenders and their finance products. We will receive a commission from the lender, as a fixed percentage of the amount you borrow, when we arrange the finance for you. These arrangements are negotiated with our lenders in advance and do not give us any discretion to negotiate or adjust your annual percentage rate (APR) or any other item included in the total charge for credit. The APR may vary according to your credit score or the amount you borrow. The value of the commission we will receive is set out in the Demands and Needs document we will provide to you. The commission paid to us is included within the cost of your finance. Some lenders may provide preferential rates to us for the funding of our vehicle stock or provide us with interest free loans. The finance rate will vary dependent of customer personal circumstances for in dealership purchases.
