Engine and performance

At the heart of the Hornet SP lies a 999cc inline-four engine, gained from the 2017 Fireblade. This powerhouse churns out an impressive 155bhp at 11,000rpm and 78lb-ft of torque at 9,000rpm. The engine has been retuned for real-world riding, providing a punchy and exhilarating experience across the rev range. The addition of an exhaust valve not only enhances performance but also delivers a thrilling exhaust note that's music to any rider's ears.

Chassis and handling

The Hornet SP features a twin-spar steel frame, offering a 70% increase in lateral stiffness compared to its predecessors. This design ensures exceptional cornering stability. The bike's short wheelbase and front-weight bias contribute to its agility, making it a joy to flick through twisty roads. The Ohlins TTX36 rear shock and Showa 41mm Separate Function Big-Piston Forks up front provide a balanced and responsive ride, soaking up bumps while maintaining precise handling.

Braking and electronics

Stopping power is top-notch, thanks to the Brembo Stylema calipers gripping 310mm discs at the front. The braking system offers excellent feel and modulation, ensuring confidence during spirited rides. On the electronics front, the Hornet SP is equipped with a suite of rider aids, including a three-way adjustable up/down quick shifter, five riding modes, traction control with integrated anti-wheelie, engine brake control, and ABS. These features allow you to tailor the bike's behavior to your preferences and riding conditions. If you’re used to having cornering ABS and an IMU then be prepared to ditch that, for some good old-fashioned rider intuition.

Design and ergonomics

Visually, the Hornet SP strikes a balance between aggression and sophistication. The matte metallic black finish, complemented by gold forks and wheels, exudes a premium feel. The riding position is comfortable, with a low seat height of 809mm, making it accessible for a wide range of riders. If we had to have a niggle, the bike frame is steel rather than the alloy that some rivals offer. But despite its 212kg weight, the bike feels nimble and manageable, both at low speeds and when carving through corners.

Value proposition

One of the most compelling aspects of the CB1000 Hornet SP is its value for money. In a market where high-performance naked bikes often come with hefty price tags, the Hornet SP offers premium components and thrilling performance at a fraction of the cost. It's a testament to Honda's commitment to delivering exceptional motorcycles that cater to both the heart and the wallet.

In our opinion, the 2025 Honda CB1000 Hornet SP is a remarkable machine that combines superbike-sourced performance along with everyday usability. Whether you're a seasoned rider seeking excitement or someone looking for a versatile and stylish bike, the Hornet SP is sure to impress.
